The dwarf Muggestutz, der Haslizwerg, who is the centre of children’s stories written by Susanna Schmid, is the king of the hill in the Meiringen-Hasliberg ski region. The oldest Haslizwerg and his friends are the focal point of action particularly during the summer. But the multifaceted Haslizwerg trail and its many adventure stops disappear under a thick blanket of snow no later than December each year. Nonetheless, families with children remain the centre of attention in the Berner Oberländ winter sport regions during the cold season of the year. With a little luck, children will not only see a dwarf or two on the mountain, but also Matthias Glarner (www.matthiasglarner.ch), a former Swiss wrestling champion and winner of the Swiss wrestling crown, who calls Haslital home. After a hard day’s work, he also occasionally heads out to enjoy those things that holidaymakers thoroughly love about the sun-splashed winter mountain: the carefully maintained winter hiking trails, sledging hills and ski slopes as well as the unbelievable view of the lake Brienzersee and the gigantic rock and ice formations of the Jungfrau Region.

ROUTE:

Hasliberg Wasserwendi (1216 m) – take the mountain train at the Twing valley station and ride to Käserstatt (1827 m) – walk up the marked sledging hill – until you reach Chüemad, afterwards race down the hill via Mägisalp (1706 m) to Bidmi (1425 m) – hike to the Lischen station after the last sledge ride and return to the starting point by taking the mountain train
